We have only installed the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12270 on the Outback Wagon, but it is confirmed to fit your 2002 Subaru Outback Sedan too!
I've included the video of us installing the hitch on a 2000 Subaru Outback Wagon because it will be a very similar install so check that out! view full answer...
I double checked with the Thule fit guide, and the Passage 3 Bike Rack, # TH911XT, will fit your 2007 Subaru Outback Sedan. The weight limit is 60 pounds for 2 bikes, 90 pounds for 3 bikes.
I have added links to the instructions and to a review video below. view full answer...
For a great trunk mount bike rack that will work well with the spoiler on your 2002 Subaru Outback Sedan I recommend the Thule OutWay # TH45JV. This rack works well with factory-installed spoilers. It holds 2 bikes, but the 3-bike verstion # TH56BV will also work. I have included a link to a video review of this rack.
If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005.... view full answer...
The use of a trailer expander, the Brophy Hitch Expander part # HT5R or part # HTAD for example will reduce the weight capacity of the trailer hitch on the vehicle by 50%. Therefore, if the weight of the bike rack and bikes is less than half of the trailer hitch's capacity you will be good to go. I suspect for a combined weight of around 60 lbs you will be well within the range of the trailer hitch so odds are you will be just fine with the above adapter. view full answer...
